KY River Foothills Release
KY River Foothills has run out of money to help low-income residents having trouble paying their energy
bills.  On July 12 the agency received $157,974 to help provide summer cooling assistance through their
LIHEAP program.  The agency has stopped accepting applications for assistance.  This grant money,
awarded by the State, was designated for Clark, Estill, Madison, and Powell counties.   Due to high
demand, funds have been expended.
 
Veterans Benefits Meetings
A Veterans Benefits Field Representative will be at the National Guard Armory, 335 Cow Creek Rd.
Ravenna, on the 1st Thursday of each month. Veterans and their dependants will receive assistance filing
for federal and state veterans benefits. This is a free service provided by KY Department of Veterans
Affairs. To apply, veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. For more

structure is designed to accommodate children of ALL physical ability levels. It is wheelchair and crutch

Movie on the Lawn at St. Joseph-Berea
Bring a blanket to St. Joseph's front lawn (305 Estill St.)and enjoy watching a family film on the big screen
all summer long. Lawn opens at 6:30, movies start at dusk. Movie dates are May 14th, June 19th, August

Big Bikes for Little Tykes
When: Saturday, July 31st. Register from 11a.m.-1p.m. at RT's Café, Ride starts at 1p.m.
Description: $10 per pike, $5 additional poker hand. Route announced day of the ride, one stop at Wildcat
Harley Davidson in London.
All proceeds benefit the Ty Lucas Foundation, helping children on Madison County. Money raised is going
to be used for the following:
Creation of an information pamphlet with SIDS information and ways to reduce risk.  It will include the major
risk factors for SIDS and also lots of information about "safe sleeping practices".  These will be given out
by the local pediatric offices and/or by PAC Hospital and expansion of the Toys for Tots program with the
Richmond Fire Department

Coyote Kidz Dayz
Coyote Kidz Dayz takes place on Saturday July 31st from 10-4 and will feature inflatable's, pony rides, food

Camp Catalpa Camp Out
The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department is happy to announce that Camp Catalpa Camp Out will
be held on Friday, July 30th at 5:30p.m.This event will feature an overnight camp out for children and their
families.    

This public event will feature several activities that will provide fun for the whole family! Activities will
include: A nature walk through Camp Catalpa wooded area, camp history education, arts and crafts, water
games, a camp fire, scary camp fire stories, and eating S’mores. Participants can arrive and start putting
together their tents at 5:30p.m. The first activity will begin at 6:30p.m. and will take place under the large
shelter. The cost for this activity is $10.00 per person or $30.00 per family (6). Participants must pre
register by July 23rd by calling the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department. Be sure to join us for

Fall Adult Softball League
The Berea Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that registration for Fall Adult
Softball Leagues. The following leagues and nights will be available: Tuesday-Men’s Independent and

Arts Alive Concert Series
The Berea Parks and Recreation and the Berea Tourism Departments are proud to present the annual
Arts Alive Concert Series to be held at Memorial Park during the month of August. The Arts Alive Concert
Series will take place on Friday nights from 7-8:30pm all summer long!  The series will get off to a sizzling
start on August 6th with Big Bands and Brass Bands. The Lexington Hepcats will be on site at 6pm on
August 6th to teach swing dancing lessons. At 7pm we invite you to show off your swing dance skills to
tunes from the Rallycats.  August 13th come check put the Jay Flippen and Gordon Towell jazz duo.
August 20th will feature the toe tapping sounds of the Osland/Daily Jazztet. August will wrap up with the big
sounds of the 18 piece Bluegrass Area Jazz Association on August 27th.

In the event of rain, concerts will be moved to the Russel Acton Folk Center located at 212 Jefferson

Bluegrass Heritage Museum Speaker.
On Thursday, August 12,  the Bluegrass Heritage Museum in Winchester will have as its speaker, Ron
Bryant, Manager of  the  WAVELAND  MUSEUM HOME SITE  in Lexington. He will discuss the building of
the beautiful Waveland home by the Bryan family, and life on the plantation in the 1800's.   All events are

4th Annual Veteran's Appreciation Picnic
Saturday, August 14th 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
A veterans picnic to celebrate their service and thank them for your freedom. Activities for all ages, free

Madison County Rescue Squad 2nd Annual Bass Fishing Tournament
When: Saturday, August 21st from 7a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Wilgreen Lake Marina; 420 Wilgreen Lake Rd. Richmond

Tournament fee is $30.00 per boat and the First Place Prize for our 2010 tournament is $150.00 plus a

Estill County Library Amnesty for Overdue Items
Any materials in your possession may be returned to the library with no fine or penalty from July 22nd
through August 25th. Should be undamaged. Failure to return items during the amnesty may result in legal
action. The library will be closed on Wednesday, August 25th to upgrade circulation and train staff.
Overdue polices will change August 26th.
Clark County Alzheimer's  Family Caregiver Training
When: Friday, August 27th from 9:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: Emmanuel Episcopal Church, McCready Hall.
Description: This program is for those who have a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with
Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Local and statewide experts in aging and Alzheimer's care will
present on Alzheimer's disease, caregiving basics, legal decisions and how to care for the caregiver.
