Publicly Intoxicated Man Leads Berea Police on Foot Chase

Last week, the Berea Police Department report getting a call in reference to a male subject allegedly screaming in the area of the police station on Chestnut Street.

Madison County 911 advised officers that 29 year old Keven Ryan Sparks had a possible warrant out of Madison County.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by Sparks’s mother that he had taken methamphetamine. Police report asking Sparks if he needed help from EMS. The citation continues that he accepted the request. Shortly after, officials report Sparks yelling out “help” and that “he did not want to go to jail” and was very tense.

The arresting officer reports attempting to de-escalate and being unable to do so. Sparks then led the officers on a foot chase across Chestnut street, then behind the Oliver and Oliver attorney’s office. The chase continued with Sparks running around Rio Grande Restaurant and back out to Chestnut street where Sparks was nearly hit.

Police report Sparks losing his footing and falling in the middle of the road, Sparks allegedly began to resist arrest and would not put his hands behind his back. Sparks was eventually cuffed, however allegedly did not stop fighting the police.

Sparks was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center on charge of public intoxication, fleeing or evading arrest, resisting arrest, and Assault 3rd degree.
