Local Girl to have Parade Ahead of Make a Wish Cottage Reveal Friday

Written by on August 20, 2020

A local girl will now have a dream come true, all thanks to Make A Wish Foundation. Campbell Doty, a 14-year-old freshman at Madison Central has received a tiny cottage in her backyard so that she can enjoy the outdoors safely. Campbell will even have a parade in her honor before the reveal, taking place Friday.

The parade for Campbell’s Make-A-Wish Reveal will start with a lineup at 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Coliseum.

KSP & other local agencies will participate in celebrating Campbell’s wish reveal. The family says that they would love to have as many friends and family to join the parade with signs to celebrate Campbell’s special day.

From the event post from mother Michelle Parke: A special guest will be presenting Campbell with the keys to her cottage! If you would like to view Campbell’s Cottage after the parade, you are welcome to find a parking place on the street and come in the backyard since it is not viewable from the street. We will have a pathway marked from the street to the backyard. We ask that you wear a mask and adhere to social distancing protocols for everyone’s safety. If you can’t attend in person, we will have the parade and reveal streamed on Facebook live from my page (Michelle Parke). I also want to invite anyone that is ever in the neighborhood to come see us. Campbell can still see people from a distance!!

From Campbell’s Mother Michelle Parke on Campbell’s story:

“Campbell Doty is 14 and has a rare genetic condition called Bohring-Opitz Syndrome. She was granted a Wish by Make-A-Wish and we went through a long process to make sure it was something she could really enjoy. Campbell loves nature, especially sitting outside listening to and seeing birds. Because of a visual condition related to her syndrome, being in the direct sunlight is uncomfortable, so we wanted to create something where she could enjoy all of that all year long. She also loves the rain so it needed to be covered. That was when her therapists and the people from Make-A-Wish designed her bird sanctuary.

It has been a labor of love to watch so many people come together to build her a place she can use every day. We thought about a trip which so many children choose with MAW, but this is something she can use every day. She chose to name it Campbell’s Cottage using her communication device. They will be presenting her with keys and I believe a sign tomorrow after the parade. Campbell will be a freshman at Central this year but is homebound (even before Covid due to her medical needs). She lives with me. Her dad is also local, his name is Brian Doty and she has a 20 year old brother, Matthew Doty.

She has had multiple surgeries and hospitalizations over the years related to her condition. She receives care from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Besides outdoors, she loves music and painting which was another reason for the cottage. She will be able to paint in the cottage as well since MAW is also giving her art supplies.”
