Second Colonel Football Player Leaves Program Citing COVID-19 Concerns

In less than 24 hours the EKU Football team has seen a second player leave the program citing concerns over the way the school is handling the Covid-19 situation. Graham Ashkettle was named second team all OVC last season as well as a second team academic All American. He was named to the all OVC preseason first team this season.

Graham stated in his Instagram statement that he “was not completely comfortable with the adherence to the Covid-19 measures at EKU, and I expressed these to Coach Wells when I met with him.” He added that “Some concerns were more due to the lack of personal responsibility some people have. Wearing a mask is important, especially indoors, during this pandemic and some people did not think that it was. In addition, playing football at all during a pandemic has some inherent risks.”

Graham Ashkettle will be graduating in the spring.
