The KHSAA Board Voted 16-2 to Allow Fall Sports to Start Practicing

Earlier this month, the KHSAA had a board of control meeting and established a delayed fall sports season that was set to begin on with practice on August 24th and games to be played the week of September 7th. The board then set today as their next meeting to come together again and either finalize that plan or in the words of KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett “Pivot” to another option. The other options on the table included pushing the season back further and limiting the number of games.

Today the board put in motion to switch to option 3 which was voted down by a 13-5 margin. Then, following a brief discussion, a motion came out to carry on with their original plan of option 1 with the details mentioned above and that option took a 16-2 vote of yes and was put into effect.
Now as teams and coaches prepare to officially begin to the season on Monday, the concern is that the Governor could weigh in and prevent the season from beginning. The KHSAA could have individual school districts opt out. And if a team has an outbreak, they could be shutdown as the rest of the state continues to play, even if that outbreak occurs during the postseason.
As of now High School Football teams can begin practice this upcoming Monday with the season kicking off on September 11th.
Madison Southern will begin the season with a home game against Lexington Christian.
Madison Centrals first game as of now is not until September 18th vs Lafayette.
Estill County will host Breathitt County on September 11th and Berea will face off against Clinton County at home.
